Sacred Place
The work is about the space and atmosphere of the last days of autumn at the altar of Cha Tam Church (official name: St. Francis Xavier Church because it belongs to Francis Xavier Parish, Archdiocese of Ho Chi Minh City). The church has Gothic architecture, but Chinese cultural elements are still respected. Where the image of the crucified Jesus hangs are two tureens painted in gold and engraved with black letters:
“Illusionary world, glory, and honor are not enough to satisfy people's wishes,
Heavenly scent of eternal happiness has the power to enrich the mind. “
Roughly translated:
“Fantasy glories cannot satisfy human desires,
God's lasting and fragrant grace helps people meditate on goodness. “
