Open Studio ASSUMPTX

We are pleased to present the AssumptX Open Studio, which was started by Quywn and Nguyen Thanh Tung. It was co-organized by Chinbo Collective and supported by Ma Men Collective and Cua Hieu Phu Phiem.

Other people cannot be said to learn of my sensations only from my behaviour - for I cannot be said to learn of them. I have them.

Inspired by the experiment “the beetle” by Ludwig Wittgenstein. Suppose that everyone had a box with something in it which we call a “beetle”. No one can ever look into anyone else’s box, and everyone says he knows what a beetle is only by looking at his beetle - Here it would be quite possible for everyone to have something different in his box. One might even imagine such a thing constantly changing. (Excerpted from Philosophical Investigations - Ludwig Wittgenstein).

Open Studio “AssumptX” includes videos, installations, and performances representing the private experiences of the duo, Quywn and Nguyen Thanh Tung. The felt states and sensations that occur in each individual's mind are things that no one can communicate well enough to share and reveal their experiences with others. Perhaps we can never know whether anyone else experiences something the same as we do. We can only assume.

This open studio served as an experiment to share the duo's private experiences and observe the participants' assumptions, and challenge this communication theory.
